Skelr
Paste a GitHub repo. Find out if it was copied.
Skelr is a GitHub plagiarism checker made by Virat Kaukuntla. Paste a link to a public repository and Skelr fingerprints its code, searches GitHub for repositories that share it, works out which one came first, and gives a 0 to 99% confidence score with side-by-side evidence. It runs in your browser with your own GitHub account and uses no AI models.
What it does
- Winnowed fingerprints of normalized code, so renamed variables, reformatting and moved functions still match
- Searches GitHub for each repo's rarest strings, identifiers and comments, and ignores boilerplate that appears everywhere
- Full mode compares syntax trees in 17 languages, reads commit history and looks for code translated to another language
- Decides who copied whom from GitHub creation dates, first commits, declared forks, stripped licenses and removed copyright headers
- Side-by-side diffs with every copied region highlighted, plus shareable reports
